Death Toll in Colombia's Military Helicopter Crash Rises to 11

Bogota (dpa) - The bodies of two soldiers who were on board a Colombian military helicopter that crashed have been found, bringing the death toll to 11, army commander Eduardo Zapateiro said on Wednesday.

Six people had earlier been rescued alive and nine bodies had been found.

"Our eleven heroes that the Allmighty receives in the kingdom of heaven, brave men who gave their all for Colombia," Zapateiro said on Twitter.

The wreckage of the Black Hawk helicopter was found on Tuesday in southern Guaviare department, where it fell partially into a river.

The aircraft was carrying crew members and soldiers who were taking part in operations against dissidents from the former guerrilla group FARC, which signed a peace deal with the government in 2016.
