Germany-Bound Flight From N.J. Lands Safely in Boston After Smoke in Cockpit, Officials Say
A flight from Newark Liberty International Airport to Germany landed Monday night in Boston because of smoke in the cockpit, according to officials and flight records.
Lufthansa Flight 403 landed around 10:25 p.m. at Boston Logan International Airport after smoke was reported in the cockpit, according to a spokesman for the Massachusetts State Police. Crew members used oxygen masks during the incident.
There were no reported injuries to the 326 people on board, officials said. The Boeing 747-8 aircraft, which departed from Newark airport around 8:15 p.m., turned toward Boston while flying near Nova Scotia, Canada, FlightAware showed.
The aircraft was destined for Frankfurt am Main Airport in Germany, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Lufthansa did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
