Report: Boeing Nears Decision to Halt or Cut 737 Max Production
Washington (dpa) - US aircraft manufacturer Boeing may make a decision as early as Monday to either halt or further cut back production of its troubled 737 MAX jets, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
Boeing's board was meeting in Chicago on Sunday, the WSJ reported citing "people familiar with the matter," with management seeing pausing production of the aircraft as the most viable option.
The report comes days after the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that the recertification process for the 737 MAX jets would extend into next year, suggesting that there was still a long way to go.
"We have a number of milestones yet to complete," Steve Dickson, administrator of the FAA, told the House transportation committee.
Global aviation regulators grounded the aircraft in March after accidents in Indonesia and Ethiopia resulted in the deaths of 346 people.
