Plane Carrying Donald Trump Made Emergency Landing at New Orleans Airport
Mar. 9—A private jet carrying former President Donald Trump experienced engine failure over the Gulf of Mexico after departing New Orleans from Lakefront Airport on Saturday night, airport director Bruce Martin confirmed Wednesday.
Trump was en route to his Mar-A-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, after meeting with Republican Party donors at a private event at the Four Seasons Hotel, The Washington Post reported. The three-engine Dassault Falcon 900 departed at about 10 p.m., Martin said.
Shortly thereafter, the plane experienced engine failure and made an emergency landing at Louis Armstrong International Airport, Martin said. Armstrong International spokesperson Erin Burns confirmed that a private charter aircraft operated by Signature Aviation diverted to the airport at 10:30 p.m. after experiencing mechanical issues. It landed safely.
The plane belonged to a donor, and suffered engine failure about 75 miles from Lakefront Airport, The Associated Press reported, citing an unnamed source.
Trump was traveling with advisers, a Secret Service detail and support staff, The AP reported. After the emergency landing, Trump's team secured another donor's private plane, and the former president ultimately made it to Mar-a-Lago early Sunday.
Representatives of Signature Aviation and the Four Seasons Hotel did not immediately respond to requests for comments.
