Indiana Pilot Wins Award
Jan. 28—In the late 1970s, Logansport residents could see Bpb Eber flying over the city at night in a sky sign airplane, advertising in lights to those on the ground.
The Rochester native, who worked in the Logansport area before his career as a pilot, is now recognized by the federal government.
On Jan. 15, Federal Aviation Administration [ FAA) presented Eber, who lives in Rochester, with the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award.
The award recognizes individuals who have exhibited professionalism, skill and aviation expertise for at least 50 years while piloting aircraft as master pilots.
Eber called it the highest award the FAA can give a pilot.
The plaque states it is "In recognition of your 50 years of exemplary aviation flight experience, distinguished professionalism and steadfast commitment to aviation safety."
He received the award at the annual banquet for the Mentone Flying Club, which moved to Rochester in the late 1970s.
Besides being a member of the Mentone Flying Club, Eber is also an instructor and board member.
He started flying while he worked in construction in the Logansport area and worked 15 years at Deichman Excavating, eventually becoming a superintendent there before being hired as a professional pilot by the Braun Corporation in Winamac during the summer of 1984.
