The Southern Museum of Flight is hosting an exhibition in honor of the Alabama 200, entitled “Alabama’s Aviation History. This travelling exhibition showcases Alabama’s long and significant history in aviation, aeronautics and aerospace innovation and achievement. Its earliest beginnings predate the famous Wright Brothers’ first civilian flying school, established in Montgomery in 1910, and its history embraces both world wars, as well as a pivotal ongoing role in space research and exploration.
Alabama Aviation History Traveling Exhibit Art Contest
In partnership with the Alabama Humanities Foundation and the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) and in conjunction with the Alabama 200, the Southern Museum of Flight is encouraging K-12 students in all Birmingham area schools to create a piece of art honoring Alabama's longstanding impact on the history of flight. Artwork themes include Alabama’s impact on:
1. Pioneers and early heroes
2. The Great War and the Golden Age
3. Race for Space and Beyond
Art Exhibition will run from April 10 - May 5, 2018, Closing reception on Saturday, May 5th at 1:00pm
