Birmingham, AL – February 5, 2018 – Join the Southern Museum of Flight in celebrating Black History Month! Throughout the month of February, the Southern Museum of Flight honors the achievements of Black Aviation Pioneers by offering special topic tours and programs. School groups can request complimentary tours entitled “Pioneers of Flight” and “Overcoming Obstacles.” A highlight of these special programs includes an exhibit honoring Alabama’s famed Tuskegee Airmen – the first black military pilots in the United States. Visitors will also have the opportunity to view the documentary film, Tuskegee Airmen, part of Alabama Public Television’s Patriots and Pioneers series, and participate in hands-on activities such as the construction of a balsa wood glider. Black Aviation Pioneers programs at the Southern Museum of Flight provide a spotlight on significant periods in American history, and this tribute highlights such extraordinary achievements that continue to provide inspiration for anyone who dares to dream!
