Eastman Turbo Oil 2389 Celebrates 50-Year Milestone

Nov. 10, 2016
EMN TO 2389 is a low viscosity, advanced turbine oil that offers exceptional cold engine start capability, ideally suited to APU equipment that require starts after long, cold-soaks at altitude.

Kingsport, TN, November 1, 2016 - Eastman Chemical Company is pleased to announce that their product Eastman Turbo Oil (EMN TO) 2389 has reached this significant milestone being first certified to the MIL-PRF-7808 specification in 1966. This marked the beginning of a long history of successful performance and in-service reliability that continues today.

EMN TO 2389 is a low viscosity, advanced turbine oil that offers exceptional cold engine start capability, ideally suited to APU equipment that require starts after long, cold-soaks at altitude. These cold start reliability characteristics provide benefits to both commercial and military applications. None more so than in Extended-range Twin-engine Operational Performance Standards (ETOPS) certifications which allows aircraft to fly longer distances between diversion points because of the ability to utilize an emergency power source from the APU.

By design, EMN TO 2389 combines thermal and oxidation stability typical of commercial 5cSt standard grade turbine oils with added ability to flow at extremely low environmental temperatures.

"We are very proud of this milestone and the benefits the product has brought to our customers by improving cold start reliability and safety in extended range operations," said Andrew Markson, Aviation Technology Group Leader, Eastman Aviation Solutions. "Through exceptional performance it has become one of the most reliable and longest serving APU lubricants in service today," Markson continued.
