OSCODA, MI -- Kalitta Air owner Conrad "Connie" Kalitta discussed the state of his Oscoda division at Thursday’s Oscoda-Wurtsmith Airport Authority meeting.
Kalitta said the declining state of the global economy has caused a slump in air freight all over the world. The Kalitta companies specialize in shipping, as well as maintenance of large aircraft, the latter of which is performed in Oscoda.
"A year ago, we had 14 to 16 flights out of Hong Kong," Kalitta told the authority. "This year, it is three. So in order to get through this year, we have had to cut back."
