SPRINGFIELD, IL -- A group of workers at a corporate aircraft refurbishing plant in Springfield are among 115 that have been laid off at four plants nationwide because of the economy, the parent company confirmed today.

StandardAero, previously known as Garrett Aviation, provides airframe maintenance, retrofits, repair, refurbishing and painting services through the company facility at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport.

"On Friday this past week, to address a slowdown in our shop volume due to current economic conditions, StandardAero informed employees in the business aviation unit of a reduction in force of 115 employees," spokesman Mike Turner said in an e-mail statement from the company headquarters in Tempe, AZ.
