DENTON, TX – The U.S. Flight Academy announces that high school students who sign up for summer camp will, at the end of three weeks, if they are over 17, go home with a Sport Pilot license in their pockets. If they are under 17, they will be invited to come back when they reach legal age, to brush up and take their check ride. Anyone under 16 will need to return for solo flight requirements as well as their check ride.
Each three-week class, starting on June 15, will provide students with the ground school needed to pass the written exam and all the hours required to achieve proficiency to pass a flight test. U.S. Flight Academy believes that most students should be ready for a check ride with 30 hours of flight time. Classes will run daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with lunch and snacks included. There will be guest speakers and other activities to fill out the days. After 5:00 p.m. and on weekends, students will be allowed to plan flights designed to make up for any flights missed due to weather or missed classes.
"Our plan this first year is to cater to regional students who can commute from home," says program director Justin Shelley. "We expect to fill the days with enough activity to make the program challenging, fun and rewarding. Class sizes will be restricted to six students, so they will all get plenty of attention, assistance and supervision. Going home with a Sport Pilot license will be a little different than heading home with a clay ashtray. This could be a phenomenal graduation present."
