Riverside, CA – The Wathen Foundation has developed a lengthy and busy schedule of activities for the year 2010. Some of the highlights include participation in the Riverside Air Show on March 27. Many of Flabob’s resident pilots will be flying over to Riverside Airport to participate in static displays and students in the Stinson and Skycoupe restoration programs at Flabob will be handling aircraft parking.
On April 6, the first five-day High School Air Academy of 2010 will begin, followed by a Home School Air Academy that runs May 4 to 8. In July, the focus shifts to middle school students, before returning to high school students for three more episodes of the popular program.
Every July 4th, fans of Flabob gather for an airport picnic, a day of socializing and a night of spectacular fireworks in a ceremony called The Burning of the Mountain. On September 25th EAA Chapter One will host its annual Open House and Aircraft Display Day. November 6th is the Veteran’s Day Celebration, which always draws a large crowd.
In addition, there will be Young Eagles programs every month except December. On the first Friday of every month, there are Friday Flicks, which provide feature films based on aviation themes. On the third Saturday of every month Flabob hosts Aircraft Display Days and a monthly car show which draws in antique wings and fenders. That same day also features a meeting of the Design Group. On the second Sunday of each month EAA Chapter One holds its monthly meeting.
All of the activities at Flabob, except the High School Air Academies ($75), are free of charge and open to everyone with an interest in aviation.
