Lie Down on bmi Flights
CHICAGO and LAS VEGAS, Sept. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- bmi Chairman Sir Michael Bishop today announced the carrier will install flat bed seats in its business cabin on all of its long haul routes operated by its Airbus 330 aircraft by June 2007. The announcement was made at an event in Saudi Arabia marking the first anniversary of its thrice weekly London Heathrow - Riyadh service.
The Airbus 330 is operated on bmi's transatlantic service in the USA from Chicago and Las Vegas to Manchester, England and in the Caribbean from Barbados and Antigua to Manchester.
The introduction of the 'Perseus' flat bed seats represents an investment of 2 million pounds sterling for bmi. Manufactured by Aviointeriors of Italy (www.aviointeriors.it), the aircraft will be fitted in a 2-2-2 configuration with 16 electronically adjustable flat bed seats with a generous 80-inch seat pitch in bmi's award-winning business class that also features a chef that caters to each passenger in this cabin. Premium economy seats will be reduced from 48 to 30 seats while economy seats will remain the same at 172.
With the reintroduction of the A330 onto the Riyadh and Jeddah routes next Spring, bmi's business class will feature 42 flat bed seats in business class and 156 in economy.
bmi's transatlantic service features the Airbus A330 aircraft with three classes of service and offers state-of-the-art video equipment with individual seat back screens featuring 16 audio and 20 video channels as well as the latest Nintendo(TM) and classic PC games. Passengers also have a bird's eyeview of their journey throughout the flight as a result of cameras mounted on the nose and belly of the aircraft.
