Lufthansa Technik Guideline® ColourFit wins Crystal Cabin Award 2011
At the Aircraft Interiors Expo 2011, Guideline® ColourFit, Lufthansa Technik's non-electric emergency floor-path guidance system has won the Crystal Cabin Award in the category "Material and Components."
The non-electrical and maintenance free system fits in every non textile floor on board. Guideline® ColourFit is especially certified for galley areas which face heavy use by the cabin crew and trolleys.
Based on a photoluminescent principle, Guideline® ColourFit shows the way to emergency exits in the event of a failure of the cabin lighting system. It only requires 15 to 30 minutes of cabin light to charge the system for a 12-hour flight.
Christian Lierow, Head of Product Guideline® at Lufthansa Technik, said: "The latest version of Guideline® ColourFit has been especially developed for heavily used areas like galley zones in which the normal carpet floor is replaced by a special non textile floor due to security reasons. The single components have been welded by a diode laser. Thus, the capsuled strips are completely protected against lubrication. Additionally, we could reduce the height of the system to slightly more than 2 mm and could completely integrate Guideline® ColourFit into the floor."
The floor-path guidance system is 100 percent failure-proof, has unlimited lifespan, is maintenance free and is more luminescent than comparable products. Guideline® ColourFit has been granted Supplemental Type Certificates (STC) by the EASA and the FAA and can be installed on all commercial aircraft.
Since Guideline® ColourFit is available in 15 colours it can be optimally adapted to the colour scheme of aircraft carpeting and cabin furnishings. The material, which stores the light and then disperses it gradually, is non-radio-active, has low flammability and is entirely non-toxic. The light-storing process can be repeated infinitely. Other than routine cleaning, no maintenance is required.
