GKN Aerospace has received two 2011 OneAero Top Shop Awards – the only company listed twice among the 17 winning repair operations. Both awards recognise the “outstanding customer support, exceptional turn-around-times and competitive repair pricing” of the Company’s aero-engine repair activities, based in San Diego, California. The San Diego facility received awards for ‘Best Engine and Overhaul Repair’ and for ‘Best Engine Accessory Repair’.
Mike Beck, President and CEO Engine Structures, GKN Aerospace comments: “We gained a OneAero award in the award scheme’s first year, 2008, and these latest wins clearly demonstrate our consistent and sustained level of service to our customers.”
GKN Aerospace, San Diego is a key facility in the GKN Aerospace global MRO activity which supports the company’s engines, aerostructures and transparencies businesses. The San Diego business repairs fan blades, compressor blades, fan disks and cases for over 180 airlines and jet engine overhaul shops around the world. The operation also applies protective carbide coatings to improve the lifespan of blades and increase their durability.
Beck continues “In recent years San Diego has achieved significant business growth - in particular on CFM56 engine overhaul - and with OEM approvals in place, the facility is focused on capturing an increasing portion of this business in the coming years.”
This is the fourth year OneAero MRO has presented these awards to a small number of the repair operations listed on their extensive aviation repair and overhaul database. This year, more than 12,000 industry professionals submitted nominations for individual repair facilities and from these nominations a short list was created. From this, a panel of international airlines and suppliers selected the 17 winning operations.
