Thales signs contract with Turkmenistan to supply equipment for airport

French Thales has been awarded a contract by the Turkmenhowayollary State Civil Aviation Department (SCAD) to supply, install and commission a comprehensive Air Traffic Management system in Ashgabat, the company's press release says on Monday.
"The contract, which will modernise Ashgabat International Airport's current Navigation Surveillance and Air Traffic Management capabilities, it will enhance safety and efficiency in the Turkmenistan airspace whilst reinforcing the economic development of the country," the press release says.
Under this contract, Thales will also provide extensive training for Turkmenistan's State Civil Aviation Department.
The contract was concluded within the decree of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov signed in July 2011.
This company is present in the country from 1990s, its record of service includes contracts to equip airports in the country's major cities with advanced air traffic management system.
Thales is also interested in providing its capabilities and experience to Turkmenistan in ensuring control over the reliability of pipeline system, in particular gas pipelines.
