Flight Attendants Union Backs American Airlines Agents' Efforts to Acheive a Voice at Work
The Association of Flight Attendants issued the following news release:
The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) today issued the following statement of support after the Communications Workers of America (CWA) filed for a representation election for the nearly 10,000 passenger service agents at American Airlines:
"We applaud the determination of American agents to protect their futures through strong union representation. By joining the nearly one million member-strong CWA, American Airlines passenger service agents are taking the right step in preserving their careers.
"CWA will best represent the interests of American's agents during the bankruptcy process and it is critical that these agents not be the only unrepresented work group as American restructures. The day they gain representation, American Airlines management must begin negotiating with their union and American's agents will gain critical protections.
"AFA knows how critical it is to have a union voice in the workplace to protect workers while we all work to rebuild an airline. American's agents are the only work group without union representation. Through CWA, they will have the same legal protections as their fellow frontline workers at the airline. American Eagle Flight Attendants, represented by AFA, are eager to stand in union solidarity with American's agents who will soon have a strong union voice through CWA. Together, we will work for the future success of AMR and for quality jobs for its frontline workers."
