GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- Passengers and employees were forced to evacuate Piedmont Triad International Airport for about an hour Thursday after the airport received a threat.
Piedmont Triad International Airport executive director Ted Johnson declined to describe the threat or how it was communicated to authorities. The FBI was investigating, he said.
''I want to give these guys all the cover they can have until they figure out who did this,'' Johnson said.
The airport's lone terminal was ordered closed about 5:50 p.m. and reopened at 6:40 p.m. after security officers searched the airport, Johnson said.
Security guards told people waiting at gates and restaurants, ''Everyone get out, we're evacuating the airport.''
Johnson said jets slated for landing circled the airport during the shutdown. He said he didn't know if any flights were canceled.
''It's just a matter of a little inconvenience for people,'' he said.
