Police evacuated a Dallas/Fort Worth Airport building Thursday night after employees handling cargo saw a damaged box with a sign indicating that it contained potentially infectious material.

The airport's Department of Public Safety determined that none of the material had leaked out of the box and cleared the scene at 1850 West Airfield Drive, said Jim Crites, D/FW's executive vice president of operations.

The incident was reported about 8 p.m., and the scene was secured after 1 1/2 hours, he said. Crites said he did not know what the material actually was. Before the DPS arrived at the building, one of the employees of the firm was taken to Baylor Medical Center at Grapevine complaining of a rash, Crites said.

The employee's status was not immediately available Thursday.
