Negotiations between Air Canada pilots and the airline over reversing wage concessions from 2004 were broken off on 9 June and are likely to go to mediation.

Serge Beaulieu, a spokesman for the Air Canada Pilots Association, expressed disappointment with the lack of progress. According to the spokesman the union made a proposal and the airline decided not to make a counterproposal, The Associated Press reported.

A spokesman for Air Canada, Peter Fitzpatrick, said there was a lack of agreement between the two sides on what to negotiate upon.

The matter will be referred to a mediator and if talks fail an arbitrator will make a ruling.
