Two people were injured Sunday after a single-engine plane attempting to land at Bigfoot Airfield struck a minivan before crash landing in a field, according to the Walworth County Sheriff's Department.
The pilot of the Piper 28, James Brown, 50, of Wind Lake was trying to land, but then took off again after he had touched down, the sheriff's department reported. The plane traveled north over Beloit Road, striking a westbound minivan with its wing.
The plane made a crash landing in a field 574 feet north of Beloit Road, according to the sheriff's department.
The driver of the vehicle, Linda Sorenson, 45, Walworth, and her 12-year-old daughter, who was a passenger in the van, were transported to Aurora Lakeland Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. Sorenson's 13-year-old daughter, Brown and a passenger in the plane, Dean H. London, 58, Hartland, were not injured.
There was increased air traffic Sunday because of a Bigfoot Airfield fly-in and drive-in pancake breakfast, the sheriff's department said. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
