Northwest Arksanas Airport Baggage Carousel Delayed

Aug. 9, 2006
The project is now more than a month behind schedule.

Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport's second baggage carousel won't open for another three weeks, said Scott Van Laningham, the airport's chief executive officer, putting the project more than a month behind schedule.

Milestone Construction, the contractor for the $3 million project, is hiring another subcontractor to do mechanical and electrical work on the carousel. The hiring process will take about a week, Van Laningham said.

The building has been extended 60 feet to accommodate the additional carousel, while also providing more room for rental car companies. It had been scheduled to open in mid-July.

The delay will not increase the cost of the project, Van Laningham said.

"The rest is pretty much done and in shape," Van Laningham said.
