Letters were sent last week to congressional leaders by the four experts, who reportedly include two previous members of the Federal Trade Commission, stating that the restrictions are part of a necessary compromise to end the dispute over Love Field, The Associated Press reported.

Officials of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport released a copy of the letter on Tuesday (12 September). It was signed by Thomas B. Leary and Christine Varney, two former members of the FTC, and antitrust lawyers Harry M. Reasoner and Janet L. McDavid.

The proposed bill would eventually repeal a 1979 law known as the Wright Amendment.
