Panel Stays Neutral on Miramar Airport Measure

The San Diego North Economic Development Council is taking a neutral stance on whether to locate a new airport at Miramar.

The San Diego North Economic Development Council is taking a neutral stance on whether to locate a new airport at Miramar.

The 22-member board yesterday voted 10-4 to take that position, said Gary Knight, the organization's president and chief executive officer. Eight members had left or were absent for the vote.

The board doesn't support the airport ballot, known as Proposition A, to put the new airport at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station, Knight said. But it wants the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority to pursue other options.

The San Diego Regional Economic Development Corp. voted this week to support the ballot measure. The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce narrowly voted in July to support the Miramar location.
