U.S. air carrier Delta Air Lines will launch the first transatlantic direct flight between Bucharest and New York starting June 6 next year, as part of its international expansion plans, a company official said on Thursday.

"We will offer four round flights per week, non-stop. We will use Boeing 767-300 ER aircraft for this route," Delta Air Lines vice president for Europe, Middle East and Africa Frank Jahangir told reporters.

The aircraft have a capacity of 214 passengers, including 35 business class seats. The price of the tickets was not revealed, but Jahangir said it would be the most competitive on Romania's market.

Delta Air Lines restarts operations in Romania after an eight-year break. The 10.5-hour flight will connect the Bucharest international airport Henri Coanda with New York's JFK.

"We have chosen Romania as part of our international expansion, due to its economic growth, recent European Union admission, and increasing economic and commercial exchanges with the U.S.," Jahangir said.

Delta Air Lines is also to announce flights connecting the United States to Prague, Dubai, Vienna, Pisa and Seoul, as part of its international expansion.

The company offers transport services to 292 destinations in 46 countries. It has an active fleet of 475 airplanes.
