Turkish Airlines has reached an agreement with an aviation workers union today (27 August).

The new agreement reportedly averts a possible strike at what is the height of the tourism season, according to labour minister Murat Basesgioglu.

According to the Associated Press, thousands of crew, ground staff and technical workers voted in favour of a strike earlier this month. The vote followed a collapse of negotiations between Turkish Airlines and the aviation workers' union, Hava-Is.

The government acted as an intermediate between the union and the company.

Under the terms of the agreement, workers would receive a 10% increase in pay this year, and a further 3% over the inflation figure in the first half of 2008; additionally 4% on top of the inflation figure in the second half of next year.
