US Airways drops Charleston to Pittsburgh flights

Sept. 28, 2007

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Commercial air service from Charleston, W.Va., to Pittsburgh will end in December.

That's when US Airways drops the last of its three daily flights from Yeager Airport to Pittsburgh International Airport.

The announcement was made during a meeting of Yeager Airport's governing board.

Yeager Director Rick Atkinson says Pittsburgh used to be the No. 1 hub airport, but it just doesn't have the connections to other major cities it used to have. He says Atlanta is now the main hub city for flights originating in Charleston.

Also at Wednesday's meeting, the board voted to implement an airport terminal smoking ban.
