A collision between a stationary British Airways Boeing 747 and a Sri Lankan Airlines Airbus left a section of the wing of the British Airways aircraft on the runway.

According to the Danish journalist Annasofie Flamand, travelling on the Sri Lankan flight, the aircraft hit the British Airways aircraft from behind.

The Daily Mail said that more than 600 passengers and crew were stranded overnight and an investigation into the incident was launched. The collision happened shortly after 2200 local time last night (15 October) when the British Airways Flight BA011 to Singapore, followed by the Airbus A340, was waiting on the runway. The British Airways aircraft was carrying 328 people. Passengers were reportedly taken to two hotels near the airport as well as the Olympia Hilton and the Crowne Plaza in Wembley. The passengers were not allowed to take their bags off the aircraft and it was hoped that they would be able to continue their journeys today on different flights. Current information suggests that the wingtip of the Airbus, which was carrying 296 passengers and crew, hit the Boeing 747.
