County officials forgot to include the cost of preparing and paving the site for a new airport hangar under construction at the county airport in Volney.
Committees and the Legislature as a whole voted last year to spend $510,000 to build a 10-plane hangar but left out $40,000 for laying down stone, a septic system and catch basins and $100,000 for paving - jobs that were done this summer by the county highway department.
Tuesday, the Legislature's Finance and Personnel Committee voted to approve paying $140,000 to the highway department for the work.
The additional expense totaled more than 27 percent of the original budget.
"Somehow, that was overlooked," said Philip Church, county administrator since June.
"We keep dumping money in this airport and don't get anything back," said Legislator Arthur Gearsbeck, R-West Monroe, the only member of the finance committee to vote against paying for the work.
On Wednesday, workers were painting stripes on the pavement around the nearly completed hangar, said Airport Manager Bruce Bisbo.
