The British transport secretary Ruth Kelly is expected to announce an easing of security restrictions at British airports today (14 November).

The Financial Times said that these security restrictions have "exacerbated so-called Heathrow hassle" since they were introduced in August 2006 and are expected to be eased in the new year.

The transport secretary is expected to announce, in a speech to the Airport Operators Association, that the rules restricting air travellers to one piece of hand luggage will be cancelled and travellers will be allowed to carry two pieces of hand luggage. It was not however said when the restriction is expected to be eased.
