JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --

Air Force officials have announced the Florida National Guard's 125th Fighter Wing based at Jacksonville International Airport could soon be home to 18 of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighters.

The new aircraft would replace the F-15s FANG fliers.

The final decision is expected within the year. Public hearings will be held on the issue.

The Air Force said it will announce the time and location one week prior to the meetings.
