Nov. 04--A man who admitted trying to take two handguns on an AirTran flight to Puerto Rico was arrested Wednesday at Orlando International Airport, police said.

Felix Davila, 49, of Oviedo, told an officer he was bringing the.40-caliber Taurus and 9mm Glock with him for protection, a report shows.

They were found about 10:20 a.m. in checked luggage that was being scanned before being loaded on Flight No. 9 to San Juan.

An alarm sounded on a small box, and a Transportation Security Administration officer found black wrapping around a gun magazine and bubble wrap around what was described as an "amplifier." The guns and six ammunition magazines were inside the amplifier, according to the report. Police would not explain further.

Davila was paged back to the AirTran ticket counter, questioned by police and arrested on a city-code charge of violating aviation personal-conduct rules. They prohibit anyone from transporting weapons without airport permission.

TSA rules allow guns in checked luggage if the owner declares them at check-in and stores them in TSA-approved packaging. Guns in Puerto Rico must be licensed.

Davila also was given a trespass warning prohibiting him from returning to airport property.

He was released Tuesday from the Orange County Jail on $250 bail.
