Sept. 29-- Five Oklahoma airports received $1.4 million in grants from the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission to improve facilities, officials say.
The grants, provide funding for runway maintenance and construction, installation of navigational aids, land purchases, terminal improvements, and installation and repair of airfield lights and signs.
The commission awarded a $12,795 grant to Claremore Regional to help remove an obstruction located near the south end of the airport's runway. Airport officials said once the obstruction is removed, the airport will be more accessible to inbound traffic during poor weather conditions.
Stillwater Regional received a $363,158 grant to be used for a $4 million project to realign the south and center portion of the airport's parallel taxiway system, install taxiway lights and reconfigure the main apron and taxiway signs.
Other airports receiving commission grants are Enid Woodring Regional Airport, $445,000; Kingfisher Municipal Airport, $400,000; and Shawnee Regional Airport, $221,006.
