The runway expansion project at South Big Horn County Airport is nearly complete with planes already landing on the larger runway, according to GDA engineer Roy Darrow.
Darrow met with the commissioners last Tuesday in the monthly update meeting on the project. He said there is some electrical and safety work to complete but a substantial completion walk-through should be conducted by the end of November.
He said the taxiway is closed at this time with no lighting at this time.
There is some painting, seeding and milling to be completed later this fall or in the spring as well.
A change order on the seeding and supplemental agreement on the removal of a silt fence were both approved at last week's meeting.
In other airport news, earlier in Tuesday's meeting, the commissioner moved to proceed with a land lease agreement with B&G Industries. B&G and the county had been operating under an old lease that still had Hawkins and Powers name on it.
The draft lease will be finalized after a map from GDA Engineers is presented to go with the agreement. Final approval will come before the commissioners at a later date.
The commission also approved an $1 million excess liability agreement with Conoco-Phillips. The agreement is only binding as long as Conoco-Phillips provides the fuel at the airport. There is no specific term in the agreement.
