The results for the 2003 AMT Salary Survey are in. The results provide information on average hourly pay rates by region, job title, age, and education.
16 percent of the surveys that were sent out were returned to us. Although this survey is not necessarily scientific, it does provide a good reference to some of the compensation trends through the past several years.
Last year, air carrier mechanics took the top pay in our survey beating out the traditional top dogs the corporate flight departments. This year, for the first time, avionics technicians brought in the highest wages.
Unfortunately, just about all job classifications showed a drop in pay averages from last year. With all of the wage concessions or air carrier mechanics in the news the past year, that was to be expected in that industry. But it appears that lower wages abound across the board.
We would like to thank all of you that participated in the survey. Turn to page 50 to check out the list of recommendations that readers
