Again this year, AMT has partnered with AvJobs.com to provide a snapshot of current salary figures for a variety of aircraft maintenance positions.
It’s no secret the industry is still hurting as general aviation aircraft owners fly less, maintenance providers reorganize to meet new business practices of operators, and airlines continue to merge and restructure, all having a negative effect on aviation workers.
When considering salary or a job change, the discussions with current or potential employers can be particularly difficult and even emotional. Salary ranges vary depending on many things, such as geographic location of the job, your experience and education, the types of aircraft being maintained, the hiring company size and type, availability of talent, benefits provided, and sometimes company or union rules. Additionally, titles of aircraft maintenance positions can be different depending on how individual employers categorize jobs. One company may title a position as an “A&P mechanic” and another may title the job an “aircraft technician.”
According to TJ Lahey, aviation career counselor with AvJobs.com, “There really are quite a few more available jobs out there than most applicants think. Public perception still points to the lack of jobs, but the reality of it is that employers are pulling their hair out because no one is applying for their jobs.” AMT
