Baggage Nanny Launches at San Diego International Airport

Sept. 13, 2019
Innovation lab graduate and local startup offers secure baggage pickup, storage and delivery for travelers.

Baggage Nanny announced its official launch at San Diego International Airport (SAN). A graduate of San Diego International Airport’s Innovation Lab, this concierge service allows travelers to maximize their vacation and business travel time and reduce stress by securely storing and delivering baggage to their lodging destination at specified times. Aiming to provide a better travel experience and stimulate the local economy, Baggage Nanny can now be found at a staffed kiosk in Terminal 1, next to baggage claim turnstiles. Baggage Nanny is expected to open a second kiosk at Terminal 2 by the end of September, which will be located at the base of the terminal’s escalators leading to the baggage claim area.

One of the most common issues leisure and business travelers face is arriving at their destination city earlier than their hotel, Airbnb or rental check-in time and departing much later than checkout. Having no place to store their bags, travelers are often forced to take their bags with them wherever they go. In fact, Baggage Nanny’s survey at the San Diego airport revealed this as a leading source of travel stress, with 83 percent of those surveyed attesting to this issue.

With Baggage Nanny, travelers can make a reservation via a mobile-friendly website to drop off their bags at a designated terminal kiosk and get a head start on their vacation or business travel. Once they’re ready to check in to their lodging destination, Baggage Nanny will deliver and drop off their bags directly to that address at the traveler’s specified time. Baggage Nanny will also pick up bags and store them at the requested terminal for the traveler ahead of their departure. Equipped with full insurance, identity verification, numbered security tags and tamper-proof seals, Baggage Nanny gives travelers peace of mind that their bags are stored in a safe and secure location.

“Dealing with baggage is a major factor in why airport travel can be so stressful, especially when hotels and rentals have strict check-in and checkout times,” said Crystal Browning, CEO of Baggage Nanny. “Baggage Nanny alleviates this stress by storing these bags and helps travelers spend more time enjoying their trip without having to drag your bags along with you. With San Diego as one of the most popular travel destinations in the U.S., our official launch here is a significant step toward introducing this new service to millions of travelers and airports across the country.”

Baggage Nanny’s service is the first-of-its-kind in the San Diego airport, creating a new and emerging market in the growing billion-dollar on-demand economy. Baggage Nanny was accepted into San Diego International Airport’s Innovation Lab in Aug. 2018, a program that offers companies the chance to test their concepts and prototypes in an airport environment. Following graduation from the Innovation Lab, Baggage Nanny was selected to enter into contract negotiations with the airport to operate at SAN.

“From our Innovation Lab to our terminals, we’re very excited to welcome Baggage Nanny’s service to our growing list of customer service amenities,” said Kimberly Becker, Airport Authority president/CEO.  “At the core of our Innovation Lab is developing products and services that improve the experience for our travelers, and Baggage Nanny’s unique concierge service does just that.”
