Flights in and out of Berlin's Tegel and Schönefeld airports are being effected due to a strike by ground support staff over a pay dispute. The walkout follows similar action by German airline pilots and flight crew.

According to a report by Deutsche Welle (DW), trade union ver.di said the walkout was to last for six hours Wednesday.

The report stated approximately 2,000 ground staff - including those dealing with flight check-ins, baggage handling, flight marshalling and plane refueling - were to take part in the strike. Also Hamburg airport was expected to be disrupted as flight crew, baggage handlers, terminal bus drivers and cleaners were expected to take part, Verdi said in the report.

Air Berlin canceled about 60 flights to and from Berlin on Wednesday. Ver.di said it was negotiating with the airports authority for better wages, working hours and promotion opportunities for its members, according to DW.

USA Today reported other flights were delayed.
