Gazprom Neft Holds First International Foresight Session on Aviation Industry

Dec. 1, 2020

Gazpromneft-Aero, the aviation fuel business operator of Gazpromneft, has held its first international online foresight* session focused on global trends and their impact on the aviation sector.

The event took place within the framework of the Aviation Fuel Forum of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and was attended by experts from major aviation companies and aviation fuel suppliers, including Lufthansa, CNAF, Neste, AEG, PTT and others.

The session considered a range of challenges and opportunities aviation faces including the development of the Internet of Things, changing tourist flows, artificial intelligence, global crises, including COVID-19 and the popularity of green energy.

Experts discussed systemic changes in passengers’ mobility and behaviour patterns. They also looked at options for finding and transforming global value chains, the development of various start-ups in the transport sector, new business models based on a joint economy and Internet ecosystem platforms and innovative technological trends in the aviation fuel market.

Gazprom Neft acted as moderators of the session and ideas and cases developed at the event will be submitted to IATA for further analysis. They will include those within the framework of the working group for the development of digital data exchange standards which Gazpromneft-Aero is also part of.

Vladimir Yegorov, general director of Gazpromneft-Aero, says, “The row of unpredictable events in 2020 such as low oil prices and the COVID19 pandemic have significantly increased uncertainty in the aviation sector. It has become clear that most of the forecasts must be revised. Moreover, the list of basic assumptions and possible scenarios that can serve as a guideline remain uncertain. In such a challenging environment, dialogue between different stakeholders is key to successful market recovery.

“We are grateful to IATA for supporting our foresight session initiative as a methodology to discuss future trends and challenges with key stakeholders and develop effective response. Together we managed to create an interactive communication platform and make it useful for all aviation fuel market players.”
