Brisbane to Kuala Lumpur Malaysia Airlines A330 Proceeds Despite Pitot Tube Error

A Malaysia Airlines maintenance engineer, two non-certifying engineers from the engineering support provider, four ground handlers and the captain “all inspected” or worked around the area the pitot tubes were covered and cleared the A330 for flight.

In an extraordinary lapse that could have resulted in a crash, eight personnel, including the captain, failed to notice covers on three pitot (sensor) tubes near the cockpit on a Malaysia Airlines A330 in July.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has just issued its first report into the serious incident at Brisbane Airport on July 18 that has left the industry stunned.
