Ground handling staff have threatened to strike between Dec . 28 and Dec. 30, which could cause disruptions at airports in Portugal.
According to a report by The Portugal News, the decision to strike over the New Year holiday period will be made on Dec. 26.
The report stated employees of ground handling companies Groundforce and Portway - along with the union that represents them, Sitava - made the decision to hold a meeting to discuss possible strike action following a recent protest staged outside the National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC)’s headquarters.
According to the report, Sitava is accusing ANAC of having “illegally licensed” Irish low-cost airline Ryanair and aviation recruitment agency Groundlink to provide assistance services on the ground in airports, which it claims was the cause of the collective firings in company Portway.
