MIA Names Life-Saving Cleaning Crew Supervisor Its Employee of the Year
Roberto Mayol, a supervisor with Miami International Airport cleaning vendor C&W Services, found himself picking up a passenger off the ground instead of litter when the traveler went into cardiac arrest and fell to the floor. The passenger was walking with his family through MIA one day in April when he felt severe chest pains and fell.
Thankfully, Mayol knew CPR and immediately began administering it. With the help of two airline employees and another nearby passenger, the cardiac arrest victim regained consciousness and survived after more medical attention.
Because of Mayol’s quick-thinking and compassionate actions, he was named MIA’s Employee of the Year at the airport’s annual Reward and Recognition Year-End Gala on Dec. 20 and was rewarded with a pair of tickets from American Airlines to fly anywhere in the continental U.S., Mexico, or the Caribbean. The gala event, held at the MIA Hotel’s Viena Restaurant, also recognized every MIA Employee of the Month winner from 2023. Mayol, who is a Cutler Bay resident, won the monthly honor in May.
