Sheltair BJC Wins AIN's Top Flight Award for Best New FBO Facility

Jan. 6, 2021

In what is the aviation version of the Oscars, Sheltair has brought home a trophy. Aviation International News (AIN) has presented the family-owned company with the 2020 Top Flight Award for Best New FBO Facility, recognizing its recently opened FBO at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport (BJC) in Broomfield, Colorado.

AIN first disclosed its desire to acknowledge the best and brightest in business aviation through the Top Flight Awards in October 2020, when it announced a carefully selected pool of nominees in various categories, including Best New FBO Facility. In this class, Sheltair BJC measured against top-rated FBOs in Austin-Bergstrom, Palm Springs/Thermal, Van Nuys, Mcleallan-Palomar and Houston Hobby. The AIN editorial team unanimously voted Sheltair as the winner after reviewing all award criteria, which included general design and market significance, overall passenger and crew experience, COVID-19 mitigation, quality of amenities and hangar features.

"Considering all of the Best New FBO nominees, we are proud to have received this award," said Lisa Holland, President of Sheltair. "I am sure that the AIN editorial team saw that our latest facility reflects Sheltair's focus on the customer's comfort, privacy, and safety. Our new complex is meant to not only meet the needs of the aviation community but exceed those expectations through innovation and a relentless commitment to customer service."

Sheltair's award-winning FBO features a 10,400 square foot terminal accompanied by 11 acres of ramp space. The $20 Million project welcomes customers with an impressive 162-foot airside canopy built to shield passengers from harsh weather conditions and a building design that highlights pine, stone, and exposed raw steel, as well as a radiant-heated floor for customer comfort. Sheltair also added a 31,050 square foot large-cabin class size hangar with an adjacent 4,455 square feet office space, equipped with infrared heating systems and natural lighting through the use of translucent polycarbonate wall panels.

"The Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport team and I are thrilled and grateful to welcome Sheltair's investment at KBJC," said RMMA Airport Director Paul Anslow." Beyond providing a competitive FBO and hangar offering at the airport, their whole team exudes the type of can-do attitude and excellent customer service I expect from my own staff. We are happy to see the Top Flight Award go to Sheltair BJC; it is a well-deserved recognition."

Sheltair is no stranger to winning awards for its facilities and services and has seen its Tampa International Airport FBO rank in AIN's top 5% for four years in a row. Sheltair also finished the year with eight of its FBO locations ranked in the top 20% of all FBOs in the country. The family-owned business is consistently praised by news outlets and customers alike with high markings and positive reviews, often attributed to its foundation in family values that have merited the company a reputation for doing things the right way.

"Our Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport FBO represents the sum of lessons learned during our nearly 60 years of serving the aviation community," added Lisa Holland. "On behalf of the men and women who strive to make Sheltair the preferred FBO destination in 18 airports across the country, we are delighted to receive this award."
