AMTSociety Training Update

Live IA Refresher Training Events

In March AMTSociety concluded another successful series of live training events accepted by FAA for Inspection Authorization (IA) refresher training. More than 500 people attended the five events held around the country. Each event offered attendees to visit with numerous exhibitors.

Our thanks go to all the exhibitors for helping us make these events possible. Exhibitors included AARC-US, Aero Performance, Aerospace Turbine Rotables, Barfield, CamGuard, Champion Aerospace, Concorde Battery, Global Parts, Hartzell Engine Technologies, Lee Aerospace, Michelin Aircraft Tires, Parker Aerospace, SkyOne FCU, and Wilco.

In addition to speakers from many of the above mentioned companies, other speakers came from AAR, Aircraft Electronics Association, Bell Helicopter, Cirrus Aircraft, SMA Engines, as well as representatives from area Light Standards District Offices, Aircraft Certification Offices, the Small Airplane Directorate, and the FAA Safety Team.

AMTSociety is currently planning a similar schedule of dates and locations for the next series. These education/IA refresher training events will begin in October 2015 and conclude in March 2016. We are planning one event per month. Visit www.amtsociety.org and go to the Live Events tab in the months ahead to view the schedule and to register to attend.

Online IA Refresher Training Course

AMTSociety is currently creating an all-new web based eight-hour online Inspection Authorization refresher training course. We expect the new course will be available this summer. Visit www.amtsociety.org and go to the Online Training tab in the months ahead to view the new course.

FAASTeam Education

The below information was included in a recently published NTSB Safety Alert.

Education and training are critical to improving GA safety. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Safety Team (FAASTeam) provides access to online training courses, seminars, and webinars to provide mechanics with recurrent training that focuses on accident and incident causal factors, special emphasis items, and regulatory issues. The courses listed below (and many others), as well as seminar and webinar information, can be accessed from the FAASTeam website at www.faasafety.gov. (Course access requires login through an existing free FAASTeam account or creating a new one.) A few of the safety-related courses available on the FAASTeam website directed toward aircraft maintainers are listed below:

  • Dirty Dozen: Human Error in Aircraft Maintenance
  • Human Factors Primer for Aviation Mechanics
  • Failure to Follow Procedures: Installation
  • Failure to Follow Procedures: Inspections
  • Aircraft Maintenance Documentation for AMTs
  • Fatigue Countermeasure Training
