CO: Grand Junction Regional Airport Fences to Remain

The gates at Grand Junction Regional Airport will remain in place for the foreseeable future and a separate security system that once was considered capable of replacing the gates is now a security enhancement.

The Airport Authority voted Thursday to keep its existing security plan, meaning that the changes that had been contemplated to accommodate pilots and others wanting ground access will go unfulfilled.

Removing the gates would come at a huge price — the likely loss of $4 million that the Federal Aviation Administration put into the existing security fence for which the airport already paid back more than $500,000.
