Heavy Rains Forced Des Moines Airport Officials to Close Runway

A bubble in the runway's pavement diverted flights at the Des Moines Airport Saturday.

Kevin Foley, Executive Director for the Des Moines Airport, told the Register that the runway was closed following a special inspection late Saturday afternoon.

Heavy rains triggered the inspection. When the operations team checked the runway, they found that rain had seeped beneath the pavement.
