Long Beach Airport has been awarded a $15.3 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration for runway reconstruction and upgrades, city officials announced on Wednesday.
The City Council will consider accepting the funds on Tuesday, in addition to approving another $3.8 million in airport enterprise funds to pay for the projects. The work will include improvements to the airport’s busiest runway, 7R-25L, used primarily for general aviation and extensive flight training operations by flight schools and flying clubs located on the south side of the airfield, according to a news release.
