BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport Fire and Rescue Service Captain Receives Industry Award

Captain Matthew Morean of the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport Fire and Rescue Department has been honored with a training award from an international industry organization. The Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) Working Group recently recognized Captain Morean with the Brian Pugh Outstanding ARFF Training Officer Award. The honor showcases efforts to institute procedures or technologies that make a difference in an airport’s ARFF training programs.

“I congratulate Captain Morean for this award, which highlights his contributions to BWI Marshall Airport, along with his leadership and collaboration with industry partners,” said Ricky Smith, executive director of BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport. “Our skilled, brave fire and rescue service professionals work so hard to protect our community. This prestigious industry award recognizes Captain Morean for his dedication and honorable service.”

Morean, a resident of Caroline County, was nominated for the award by Battalion Fire Chief Jason Graber of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) Fire and Rescue Department. The BWI Marshall Airport Fire and Rescue Department and the MWAA Fire and Rescue Department regularly collaborate on training programs.

In the award nomination, Battalion Fire Chief Graber acknowledged Captain Morean’s experience and value, and said he “undoubtedly is the backbone of the organization at the BWI Fire and Rescue Department.”
