TPA's Flamingo Statue Close To Cinching a Major International Public Art Award

July 28, 2023
The famous 21-foot art installation titled HOME is currently in the No. 2 spot, which would qualify it as a People's Choice winner in the prestigious CODAawards.

Tampa International Airport's beloved flamingo statue, nicknamed "Phoebe," is in a lead spot for an international art award, and TPA needs the community's help to keep her there.

Matthew Mazzotta's HOME, which was installed in 2022, is among 100 public art projects from around the globe vying for a People's Choice CODAaward, hosted by CODAworx, an online platform that celebrates and connects commissioned artists and public artwork and designs. The award is globally recognized and honors "individuals and the teams whose collective imaginations create the public and private spaces," according to the CODAworx site.

Among the 100 artwork and design projects chosen by juried selection are murals, sculptures, digital displays, immersive spaces and other creative works in the U.S., Canada, Germany, Taiwan and other locations around the world. A tunnel mural at Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport is currently in the No. 1 spot and TPA's flamingo statue is at No. 2.

Phoebe fans may vote for her at https://www.codaworx.com/codaawards/2023-top-100/

Voters must enter their email addresses to ensure they only vote once per person. The site has experienced intermittent outages this week, possibly due to high traffic, so voters are encouraged to keep trying if they're unsuccessful in connecting. The contest voting is open until Monday, July 31.
