June 11, 2021

Just in time for fall and winter travel, Southwest Airlines has announced it will resume two daily nonstop flights from Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) as Southwest expands its schedule through January 5, 2022, adding more domestic destinations than ever before. Southwest will reinstate daily nonstop flights from Birmingham to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) and Houston William P. Hobby International Airport (HOU) beginning on November 6, 2021. Southwest will utilize a Boeing 737 aircraft with 143 seats for the daily routes.

“As demand for air travel continues to grow, we are very grateful that our customers will have more options, more convenience and flexibility as they seek to reconnect with friends and family and as business travel continues to recover,” said Ronald F. Mathieu, Birmingham Airport Authority President and CEO. “We are pleased to partner with Southwest, and we are proud to see their continued commitment in serving our community.”

With this reinstated daily service from Southwest, Birmingham travelers will gain more choices and access with competitive fares to popular destinations across the country through Baltimore/Washington and Houston. Southwest offers bags fly free® to everyone, and there are no change fees.

“We’re continuing to expand our service bringing low fares, flexible policies, and world-famous hospitality to more people, making it easier to choose Southwest,” Andrew Watterson, Chief Commercial Officer & Executive Vice President for Southwest Airlines said in a recent news release.
